Green Onion Mexican Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Green Onion Mexican Restaurant in San Pedro is like finding a familiar corner of the neighborhood where time moves just a little slower and genuine warmth fills the air. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming—an inviting refuge from the day’s hustle, where the hum of conversations and friendly chatter makes you feel comfortably at home without ever being rushed.
This has been a quiet staple in the community for more than three decades, and that history is woven into its very walls. The pace is unhurried, giving space to savor the simple yet deeply satisfying pleasures of fresh, thoughtfully prepared Mexican cuisine. The restaurant’s spirit is lively but never overwhelming, maintaining a relaxed vibe that invites guests to linger over meals and meaningful moments.
What makes Green Onion truly stand out is the way its dishes carry the essence of care and tradition without fuss. Whether it’s sizzling fajitas with tender cuts of steak or chicken, shrimp gently bathed in garlic butter, or the house-special sauces layered atop charbroiled filets, each plate tells a story of balance and affection in every bite. Portions are generous and accompanied by fresh vegetables and other classic comforts that feel both familiar and fresh.
The staff adds another layer to the experience: friendly and attentive without overstepping, making you feel more like a neighbor than a customer. The steady rhythm of service matches the welcoming ambiance, enhancing a sense of belonging that goes beyond just dining out.
Green Onion isn’t just a place to eat—it’s a part of San Pedro’s fabric, a local haven where food is a reason to pause and connect. 8/29/2025 Had a nice lunch at the Green Onion today. Sophia was our amazing server and she is so kind and efficient. The restaurant has been in business for over 30 years and is a neighborhood favorite. My wife had a blended margarita and I had an iced tea. The chips and salsa were good as well. The ambiance was cool and positive as well. My wife had the chicken enchiladas and I had the tostada. The food and service were good. Recommended Previous visit What a great lil place. Sophia was our server and quite the gem. The food is authentic and the place is definitely a locals favorite. My wife had two chicken enchiladas and I had the chicken enchilada and chile relleno. Both dishes were excellent. The vibe is positive and you can watch sports or even play lotto here. Great lil spot and the Don Julio Reposado and margaritas were terrific. Recommended.

Dined at The Green Onion for the last time. Sadly, this restaurant is closing November 19. But, before it does, you should stop by for some fantastic food! Try the mushroom quesadilla - this was a delicious surprise - so flavorful with a perfect, flaky tortilla!! Included in our order, a cheese enchilada and chicken flautas.

My first time here and I really enjoyed it. It was a nice and clean, comfortable, not crowded restaurant. The service from everyone was great. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced, especially for the portions. I'll definitely return and definitely recommend. I was with a group of 8 but 3 of us had the Green Onion 3 Taco Platter, Fajitadilla with Steak, and the Cheese Enchiladas. All came with beans and rice.

We had Fajitas, chicken, steak, and shrimp. I really loved my food. Large portion and fresh quality veggies. The servers were very fast and friendly. I highly recommend this place.

I had such a wonderful experience at Green Onion Restaurant in San Pedro! The food was absolutely delicious — everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. From the chips and salsa to the main entrées, you can really taste the quality and care in every dish. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made me feel right at home. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, making it a perfect spot for both casual dining and family gatherings. I especially loved the generous portions and how everything came out hot and beautifully presented. If you’re in the area and craving great Mexican food with authentic flavor, Green Onion is definitely the place to go! I’ll absolutely be coming back soon.

Best Mexican Restaurant in San Pedro! —and that’s saying something in a city known for both seafood and authentic Mexican food. With over 40% of the population being Hispanic and the city hugging the ocean, you’ll find no shortage of delicious options. I’ve tried three top spots, and while they’re all fresh, affordable, and authentic, Green Onion shines the brightest. Here’s why: It’s the most affordable overall. It has the most extensive menu by far. The largest indoor seating area with a variety of options. Boots, tables, bar area, and so on. And they’ve been around longer than the others—which might explain the depth of their menu. But a few things to note: Service is hit or miss—sometimes attentive, sometimes not. No house-made horchata, and their spiciest salsa is... well, not spicy. For a Mexican restaurant in California, that’s a little surprising. So while the other places might win on spice and homemade drinks, Green Onion wins on variety, value, and legacy. If you’re looking for guaranteed staples done perfectly, or you value flawless service and bold heat—don't come here. But if you're after range, affordability, and local charm, this one’s the winner.

We visited Green Onion Mexican Restaurant on a Saturday evening with a party of 14 and were pleasantly surprised that we didn’t have to wait to be seated! The food was delicious, hot, and reasonably priced — everyone at our table enjoyed their meals. Our server was friendly and pleasant, though we did have to look for her a couple of times to place our order and get the bill. Once the order was in, the food came out quickly and fresh. The restaurant is family-friendly, but it also has a lively Cantina area that gives it a fun, energetic vibe. Parking was free and, while the lot isn’t very large, we all managed to find spots easily. Overall, it was a great experience — tasty food, good prices, and a welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!

Farewell to the Geen Onion after 40 years in San Pedro. Your margaritas were the best and strong. And good reasonable price Mexican food!!! You will be missed.
